Developed as a course and aimed at children aged 5 and 6, Stage 2 of the Ji Alef-Bet series is about beginning to read simple Hebrew words.
Having completed Stage 1 in the Ji Alef-Bet series, children should be able to recognize and sound each Hebrew letter. They should also be familiar with the vowels and their sounds. In the first series, the stories were in English, all taking place within a magical pop-up book.
In Ji Alef-Bet Stage 2, we begin with initial reading exercises in Hebrew. We have produced a story on each letter, trying to incorporate many Hebrew words with that target letter. The animations are in simple Hebrew, and the child progresses from watching animations to reading the story independently from a virtual book. Much care was taken in the design of the book to give the child the feeling of a Hebrew book, reading from right to left.
Ji Alef-Bet series is a full curriculum for teaching young children to read and understand Hebrew.
This animated series will enrich your young child:
Animated stories for each letter, rich in words either starting or containing that letter
Puzzles and exercises to encourage letter recognition and word-building
Reading exercises, where children can sound out the letters and vowels, and then check themselves to see if they were correct
Children learn and interact with Hebrew words and pictures for each letter, increasing Hebrew vocabulary
Stickers with the letters, animations and scenes from the stories available in Jigzi’s creation tool, so children can build their own scenes and words with the characters that they recognize from the series
This beautifully illustrated book will guide you through teaching how to read words with each letter, with tips and tricks to help the young child remember the letters.
The words selected for inclusion in this series were carefully chosen for their connection to the festivals, the Tanach, or with Jewish values. The values that we teach in the letter animations are also carefully constructed for young children to understand: giving charity, welcoming friends, and other mitzvot.
Print out this set of flash cards containing all 170 Hebrew words used throughout the series. Cut them, fold them, use them in your classroom!
