Developed as a course and aimed at children aged 5 and 6, the Ji Alef-Bet series is about learning the Hebrew letters in a fun, interactive and innovative way.
Each letter starts with an animation of the current letter interacting with Kivi, our guide through the Ji Alef-Bet series. Where possible, we have integrated an activity within the animation, where the learner can interact with the letter. The lesson then has puzzles, reading exercises and a section to learn Hebrew words with that letter. By the end of the series, children could learn up to 170 new Hebrew words!
The stories and instructions are in English as this course was designed not only for ‘Sunday’ schools and cheders, but for families with young children, whose parents do not necessarily know Hebrew. The course has been designed so that children can learn the letters in any order. The default playlist goes in order, but any lesson can be accessed at any time.
There are currently two versions of the Ji Alef-Bet: one with American voices, and one with British voices. You choose which one suits you better!
This animated series will enrich your young child:
Animated stories for each letter, emphasizing its shape and sound
A song for each letter, where kids can sing along and learn the letter’s name and sound
Original Alef-Bet song with animations of all the letters
Puzzles and exercises to encourage letter recognition
Reading exercises, where children can sound out the letters and vowels, and then check themselves to see if they were correct
Children learn and interact with Hebrew words and pictures for each letter, increasing Hebrew vocabulary
Stickers with the letters, animations and scenes from the stories available in Jigzi’s creation tool, so children can build their own scenes and words with the characters that they recognize from the series
This beautifully illustrated book will guide you through teaching each letter, with tips and tricks to help the young child remember the letters. Download the version that best suits you (UK or USA)
The words selected for inclusion in this series were carefully chosen for their connection to the festivals, the Tanach, or with Jewish values. The values that we teach in the letter animations are also carefully constructed for young children to understand: giving charity, welcoming friends, and other mitzvot.
The Ji team believes that every aspect of Ji Alef-Bet should be a learning moment, and it is for this reason that the character who guides learners through learning the Alef-Bet is called ‘Kivi’.
In Israel, ‘Kivi’ is used as the shortened version of the name ‘Akiva’ and we chose this having been inspired by the many stories in the Talmud about Rabbi Akiva.
