JSTEM

What is J-STEM?

STEM is an approach to teaching and learning which emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. At Ji, we have added a Jewish element to STEM learning which incorporates Jewish themes and ideas to help foster discussion, creativity and critical thinking.

Why is STEM important?

More & more good jobs require a solid grounding in STEM subjects. It’s a trend which will only continue as workplaces become increasingly reliant on technology, and many of the best paid positions go to those who can program computers and work with machines.

Doesn’t all the real STEM education happen in high-schools?

Nope. Kids need to acquire the principles and mental tools for learning and engaging with STEM material during their elementary or primary education. In the UK, coding is now now a mandatory part of the curriculum for children as young as 5 years old.

So how does the ‘J’ combine with the ‘STEM’?

Ji’s tools and content present a unique opportunity for children to learn & practice STEM skills of scripting, instructional design, debugging, variables, graphic design, animation and reward systems inside the context of Jewish education. For example, your students can be creating their own games about the Seder Night rituals, while they develop their STEM skills.

How do I find out more?

Arrange a call with us. J-STEM isn’t a one-size-fits-all exercise. We can work with your requirements and IT facilities to establish an ideal solution for your school.

Arrange a call to discuss J-STEM for your school

Slide Ji Hackathons Discuss a Ji Hackathon for your school More about Ji's J-STEM program Slide Ji Hackathons Discuss a Ji Hackathon for your school More about Ji's J-STEAM program Hackathons are opportunities for your school or organization to bring young people together with mentors, enthusiasts and technology stars to create something incredible. Participants are matched-up into teams. Working collaboratively and intensively, each team develops a product or solution during the hackathon. The teams each pitch their product to a panel of judges who pick a winner. Hackathons develop ‘hard’ STEM skills alongside ‘soft’ skills of teamwork, ideation, communication, delegation, adaptability and collaboration. Hackathons can be tailored to fit specific objectives. For example, increasing involvement of girls in tech, or better integration of Jewish Studies into the secular curriculum. Ji has organized many hackathons and can work with your school or organization to create something special and impactful.

J-STEM Testimonials

STEM thinking is Jewish thinking. It’s the idea that we take what was, and that we reinvent it and rethink it.

This J-STEM project is an opportunity to put Kellman Brown Academy on the map and our special South Jersey Jewish community on the map. Together, we are going to build something that’s new, that’s different, that’s innovative, that’s cutting edge, that’s going to be something that sets us apart from any other school and any other Jewish community around.

My STEM education started in Jewish Day School as well. Today, I use it every day! J-STEM will help them become critical thinkers, analytical thinkers, and it will help them grow into leaders in their fields and in their Jewish communities.
