Ji is supporting Arab Israeli teachers in the integration of innovative pedagogy
Jewish Interactive is proudly supporting Arab Israeli teachers in Ajyal Elementary Arab School in Jaffa.
Ajyal School was established in 1998 by the headteacher Nihaya Hamdan Yahya- an educator from the city of Jaffa. The school was founded for students from Jaffa with a vision to encourage them to maintain their Palestinian Arab identity while living in the State of Israel with a goal to create graduates who will contribute to the varied and pluralistic community living in Jaffa. The school caters to Arab, as well as children of mixed Jewish, Christian and Muslim families.
After experiencing a training seminar a few months ago, the school invited Anat to discuss opportunities to promote a deeper technological pedagogical support for the team of teachers.
In the complex current situation, with rockets aimed at Tel Aviv and other parts of the country, the government declared that all schools in Tel Aviv area were not to open. Like many other schools, Ajyal school was closed and the children joined the Ministry’s “Education in an Emergency State” program. Nihaya Yahya told Anat, during the visit today, that her teachers sent the children games which they have prepared on Ji Tap to play at home and the feedback from the parents was that for the first time, the children were so engaged in learning through games and preferred doing this than switching on TV as they usually did.
Ajyal School is an outstanding technologically advanced school and the teachers develop computerized teaching units that are applied in classrooms. The teachers are applying skills which they have learned in Ji’s training to all subject areas including teaching Hebrew, Arabic, and the common values of the three religions; Islam, Christianity and Judaism. “We were so excited to discover this amazing tool and have the opportunity to participate in the Ji pedagogical training which totally supports our vision of innovation” said the headteacher.
